Frenkie de Jong to Man Utd is inching closer.
Manchester United are on the verge of completing a deal for FC Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong. In his time at Barca, the Dutchman has racked up 138 appearances, 13 goals, and 17 assists under four different managers.
De Jong is said not to be impressed with how his time at Camp Nou has panned and is interested in a new challenge with the club keen to sell him so as to fund some of their targets in the summer.
According to journalist Gerard Romero, the deal with United is 95% done with just a few details remaining for the move to be made official. The fee for the player is likely to be between €70 and €80m according to the journalist.
Barcelona made the signing for €86m back in 2019 and the new sale would represent a loss on their side but a win in so many ways as they would be scrapping off one of the club’s highest earners from their wage bill.
Should the deal happen, De Jong will be joining his former manager at Ajax, Erik ten Hag, who will be moving to Old Trafford in the summer; the manager is believed to be the one to have urged United officials to sign the player.
