Manchester United could reportedly make an unanticipated deal to sign Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kanté during the transfer window as the Dutch manager tries to solve Man Utd’s midfield problems.
The France international only has one year left under his Chelsea contract. It appears that the new Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag is a big fan and admirer of the ex- Leicester City ace and World cup winner.
Erik Ten Hag is only weeks away from officially beginning his job as Manchester United’s new permanent manager after signing the three-year contract last month. He will be in charge of his final game as manager for Ajax in the afternoon on Sunday.
Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Lee Grant and Edinson Cavani will all leave the club this summer upon the expiry of their contracts and Manchester United will need a deep surgery this summer for the rebuild.
According to the Daily Mirror, Ten Hag is making Chelsea star, Kante a key target to start his rebuilding job at Man Utd, with other big names like Declan Rice perhaps looking too expensive at the moment.
Kante has been a world-class performer for the Blues down the years, though there are perhaps signs that he’s falling down the pecking order now, having been left on the bench by Thomas Tuchel in yesterday’s FA Cup final.
But at United, Kante is likely to be among the first names to appear on the team roster, with replacements urgently needed to replace such players as Scott McTominay and perhaps Fred.
Kante’s incredible work rate as well as his ability to read the game can make him the perfect choice to provide United greater quality midway through the field after this season of struggle.
