Before his mega move to Old Trafford, Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers warned Harry Maguire about the pressures that he would likely face when he joined Manchester United prior to his departure from the Foxes.
This season has proved what Brendan Rodgers said about Maguire.
This season, Maguire has been heavily criticized for a string of poor performances and it got worse for him as the fans in Wembley on Tuesday evening chose to boo Maguire before and during the game.
Many of his teammates in the national team have stood by him and issued statements condemning how Maguire was booed by the fans during England’s win against Ivory Coast on Tuesday at Wembley stadium.
The jeers of the supporters came when Maguire’s name read aloud. This isn’t an event that occurs regularly. Whiles many agree the Manchester United defender has struggled for his club, they also disagree that he deserves to be jeered.
Manchester United signed Maguire from Leicester in 2019 for the staggering sum of £80m. In 2020, he was made the United captain, but the former Hull City man has struggled to meet the expectations of the captaincy.
The 29-year-old is contending to face his former side Leicester over the weekend.
